Sri Sumangala College

• nceSri Sumangala College, in Panadura, Sri Lanka, was founded on March 3, 1909 memory of Ven.Weligama Sri Sumangala Thero, who played an important role in Sri Lankan Buddhism.^[2] It is one of the oldest schools in the country. It is a national school,^[1] i.e., it is controlled by the central government as opposed to theProvincial Council. It is one of the largest Buddhist school in Sri Lanka, with a student population of 4000 over 13 Grades.^[1] The current academic staff numbers over 150.^[1]

  Sri Sumangala Balika, Panadura emerge champs

  Sumangala Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Panadura accumulated 192 ½ points to win the championship trophy at the Panadura Divisional Inter-School Sports Competitors held at the Panadura Public Grounds recently. The Sports meet was carried out successfully under the patronage of Western province Asst. Director in Sports Education, Upali Amarathunga. Panadura Divisional Education Director Kapila Meddegoda, and Kalutara Inservice Advisor in Sports Education Kantha Meegammuwage also took part in the event.
  Royal College, Panadura collected 186 ½ points and emerged runner-up. Sri Sumangala Boys College, with 156 points was placed third and the 4th place was won by Wadduwa Central College with 107 points Lyceum International School with 81 points obtained the 5th place Championship and runner-up trophies were distributed by Western Province Education Director (Sports) Upali Amaratunga with the participation of Panadura Divisional Education Director Kapila Meddegoda and Kalutara ISA (Sports) Kantha Meegamuwage.

  Runner-up trophy of the Panadura Divisional Inter-school Sports Competitions – 2014 is presented to Royal College, Panadura by the WP Sports Educational Director Upali Amaratunga.

  “It’s after nearly 25 long years, that Royal College, Panadura won the Volleyball Championship Trophy, and they (Panadura Royal) have now achieved a good level in the sports and especially, they are very good at volleyball” said Kantha Meegamuwage, the ISA Sports, of the Kalutara Zonal Educational Office, to ‘Daily News’. Agamethi Balika MV to has been very much successful in the girls volleyball section many sports fans told ‘Daily News”.
